I've seen a lot of RC aircraft videos but this one is simply stunning. It's from a 17 year old who has the most incredible control over the aeroplane that I've ever seen. The plane is more like a helicopter with a fuselage hanging from the prop. I hope you enjoy it!
We would like to wish everyone in the DownWind community a very Merry Christmas! We look forward to hearing all about your flying exploits in the new year! Best wishes from Michael and Roselyn Gilmour.
Yves Rossy has made the ultimate flying dream a reality - soaring through the air, with total freedom in all three dimensions - not within a heavy machine but with only one's body. The jetman achieves flight by using a jet-powered fixed wing strapped to his back and controls the flight by moving his shoulders in the direction he wants to go. He has flown over the Atlantic making an attempt from Morocco to Spain and has successfully flown across the English Channel from Calais, France to Dover, UK.
Join movie great Cuba Gooding Jr and the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African American combat pilots during World War II, who are courageously waging two wars at once -- one against enemies overseas, and the other against discrimination within the military and back home. Based on true events Red Tails is a movie you won't want to miss!
Who wants to be the fastest kid in the airport? Need a new speed and altitude fix? Jack has asked if anyone is looking for a new toy and thought you may want to consider the SU-27UB-N as an option! Check out his thread Click Here
This week we are highlighting a music video that flyingninja uploaded to DownWind by Tom Petty titled "Learning to Fly" It was composed in 1991 and the vid switches back and forth between shots of the band plyaing in aircraft boneyard and vignettes from the early life of a young boy. Hope you enjoy it!
DownWind member jet9919 recommended we take a look at some youtube footage of the Super Petrel 100 which is an amphibious plane named after a seabird. This clip shows a takeoff which transitions from land to sea and is piloted by our latest member Jay Laybutt.
I loved watching this video which shows DownWind member Tomo taking his brother McKenzie for his first flight. I particularly enjoyed the kid-style explanation of the pre-take off checks. It's nice to see pilots sharing their passion with others and instilling the joy of aviation.
This is definitely a different kind of flying that is not for the faint hearted! This clip showcases the extreme sport of wingsuit flying, where the human body flies through the air using a special jumpsuit - Anyone game?
